Moreno Scores 3 Touchdowns vs. GSU

August 31st, 2008 by Knowshon Zone

The No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs beat Georgia Southern 45-21 yesterday in Athens. There was a lot of excitement in the air after Uga VII was announced before the game. Knowshon Moreno kicked things off with a 2 yard touchdown run 3 minutes into the game and put UGA up 7-0 early. It was all Dawgs from that point on. Knowshon had only 8 carries for 59 yards, but 3 of those eight carries were for touchdowns. In addition to rushing, he also had 2 catches for 53 yards. So 112 total yards and 3 touchdowns is not a bad day at all!

Knowshon did not play the entire game. It was first thought that he he left the field with a possible injury, but I think that was debunked. Knowshon played strong into the 3 quarter and was able to kick off his 2008 Heisman campaign with 3 touchdowns.

Despite earlier talks of Knowshon Moreno being involved in the punt/kickoff return teams, we did not see him play on special teams yesterday.

Knowshon Moreno vs. Georgia Southern

August 29th, 2008 by Knowshon Zone

We are less then 24 hours away from the Georgia Bulldogs first football game of the 2008 season. They come in ranked #1 in the nation and should destroy an unranked Georgia Southern team. I don’t even want to see GSU score 10 points, and if they do, the Dawgs better have already put 50 on the scoreboard.

Last year on opening day, Knowshon Moreno didn’t do much on the ground. He had 20 carries for 70 yards, but he also had 2 receptions for 51 yards. It’s a good day for any normal college player. This year, with all the hype, Georgia fans are expecting a lot more out of him. Anything short of 120 yards and a touchdown against a weak opponent like GSU will be a disappointment. Heisman contenders don’t lay eggs against bad team.

But I’m confident in Knowshon. Georgia has high expectations for this team and Coach Richt won’t let us down. I think he’ll pound the ball often and early, getting Knowshon plenty of carries in the first half. Once they put points on the board it could be a free reign for him. Don’t expect Knowshon Moreno to play the entire game though. Caleb King will get his share as a chance of pace back and later on in the game once the score is out of reach for GSU.

Should be a great game and beautiful weather. Oh and be sure to get to the stadium early… they’ll be introducing Uga VII during a pre-game ceremony.

Moreno May Still Field Punts!

August 27th, 2008 by Knowshon Zone

The Augusta Chronicle is saying:

Knowshon Moreno probably won’t return punts in Georgia’s opener against Georgia Southern on Saturday, but the idea of using the Bulldogs’ star tailback on special teams is still alive.

Moreno hasn’t returned punts in a game since he played for Middletown South High School in Belford, N.J., but coach Mark Richt still says he likes the idea of Moreno having the ball in the open field on returns.

“Knowshon had a spell there where he couldn’t get any reps, and I guess that he fell by the wayside,” Richt said of a shoulder injury that kept Moreno in a non-contact jersey until this week. “I wouldn’t count Knowshon out of returning some punts before this year is over. We might trot him out there. It would be good. I would be excited to see what happens.”

I wrote about Knowshon Moreno being considered for punt and kickoff returns a week or so ago. I didn’t think it was a good idea then and I still don’t think it’s a good idea today. Yes, he’ll get more touches in a game, but I just hate seeing star players get hurt on special teams.

Knowshon Moreno’s Girlfriend

August 26th, 2008 by Knowshon Zone

When pictures of Tim Tebow’s Girlfriend (allegedly) surfaced last year, it became a hot search item in Google. Everyone wanted to see who he was dating.

I just got done reading the latest featured article from ESPN The Magazine. It’s all about Knowshon Moreno, so you’ve got to check it out. In the article, it mentions that he is hanging out with his girlfriend Nikki Childs, a former UGA gymnast. I think she graduated in 2008, so is no longer at UGA. Gotta love Knowshon dating an older woman!

Anyway.. I don’t know how long they’ve been dating or even how serious they are. Judging by the pictures and videos (see below), Knowshon is a lucky guy. Not only is she an awesome athlete and gymnast, but she’s attractive too. I just hope she doesn’t distract him too much during the football season!

MLive Says Knowshon is #2 RB

August 19th, 2008 by Knowshon Zone

A blog called MLive listed their top 14 running backs in college football. Take a look at their top 2.

2. Knowshon Moreno, Georgia: Moreno here means that the Michigan fans reading this will not be happy about No. 1. So be it. But I wouldn’t put Moreno too far behind - he is clearly the SEC’s best back and should be a Heisman contender if he stays healthy.

1. Beanie Wells, Ohio State: If Ohio State wins at USC, and if the Bucks run the table and if they get back to the national title game … this is your Heisman Trophy winner. Wells is an amazing back - fast, strong, great vision. Everything you want in a star.

Now, I’m not trying to say Beanie Wells sucks, but I wouldn’t rank him above Knowshon Moreno. First of all, the strength of schedule that each of these running backs face isn’t even a competition. The SEC is far more powerful and has faster, tougher defenses then what Beanie sees in the Big 10. So when you look at their stats (Knowshon stats, Beanie stats) and you see their YPC is very similar… 5.5 vs 5.4 I would give the edge to Knowshon even though he is .1 lower. Their touchdown totals are also comparbale. But whether Knowshon Moreno gets the edge is in the passing game. Beanie Wells does not catch the ball out of the backfield at all, while Knowshon had 20 receptions for 253 yards last year. He is simply a more complete back.

What’s your take?

Is Knowshon Going to Return Punts/Kicks?

August 18th, 2008 by Knowshon Zone

I just read in the AJC that Coach Richt has been using Knowshon Moreno in practice to return punts and kickoffs. My first reaction to hearing a star player is going to be used on special teams is always: NOOOO!!! Why risk injury to your best player?!

The AJC makes a good point though. Reggie Bush did it, and so did Desmond Howard. I guess the thinking is: Get your best player on the field as many times as you can. The more times Knowshon is on the field, the more big plays and touchdowns he can score.

In my opinion, Knowshon should only be used to return punts or kicks if the game is on the line, or it’s a big game like FL vs. GA or a SEC Championship game. I really don’t want to see him run on to the field for a punt against Central Michigan.

Knowshon Moreno iPhone / iPod Touch Wallpapers

August 13th, 2008 by Knowshon Zone

Now I’m not an awesome graphics designer, so forbid me if these are pretty bland. But I thought some of you might want a Knowshon Moreno iPhone wallpaper. So I took a couple of images of Knowshon and resized them to fit your iPhone. These will work on the old iPhones or the new 3G ones.

Simply save the images to a folder on your computer, and sync it to your Photos in iTunes. Then open your photos on the iPhone and click on it. Select “set as wallpaper” and you’re done.

EDIT: We have temporarily removed all Knowshon Moreno iPhone wallpapers.
