Denver Broncos rookies reported to training camp on Monday … that is all of them except for Knowshon Moreno, who is still not under contract. It is common for rookies selected in the first round to be a few days late to training camp while their agents work with the front office to come up with a deal.
Knowshon did however sign a sponsorship deal with Reebok, so we’ll probably see him on a few commercials and in your favorite shoe stores at the mall.
From Rotowire:
Head coach Josh McDaniels acknowledged that it will be difficult for Moreno to catch up now that he is missing some time in camp, but that Friday is the most important starting block because that is the first full day with the veteran players. Moreno was the first running back taken in the 2008 draft and many expect him to be the starting running back out of the gate. However, missing time in camp does not bode well for that thinking.

Football blog ProFootballTalk is reporting that the Denver Broncos and running back Knowshon Moreno have begun contract negotiations. Only 2 of the first roun d draft picks have signed contracts so far. Moreno was the 12th overall selection in the draft and will be looking for a contract similar to the 12th pick in 2008 plus a small % increase.
Most teams like to get their first round picks signed to a contract before training camp starts. Its shown time and time again that rookies who hold out into training camp are slow to come along when the season starts. Holding out isn’t good for anyone. The quicker Moreno can get on the field the better his chances are to be the starting running back on opening day.

So this video is like 2 months old, but for some reason was just uploaded to Youtube today… so I thought I would post it. Panini America interview Knowshon Moreno over at the NFL Players Rookie Premier (remember Knowshon won the best touchdown dance here). The interview itself isn’t that great. The guy asking the questions looked like he had never done this before and kept asking stupid follow up questions.
Anyways, it’s nice seeing Knowshon on video. There’s not much going on right now until training camp so hopefully this can help hold you over.
