Georgia Bulldog Pro Day

The University of Georgia Pro Day is coming up in two days. Knowshon Moreno will be there to participate in drills for the NFL Scouts. I’m hoping he can improve on his 40 time and show scouts that he should be the No. 1 ranked running back, and potential top 15 pick in the NFL Draft.

Moreno ran a 4.62 40 at the Combine. That’s pretty bad for a running back. He needs to get that number close the 4.49. I’m not sure if he can do it, but he should be able to shed some time just by running on his home field and without the media spectacle surrounding it.

I’ll be sure to bring you all the stats and news from Pro Day later this week.

Georgia is Capital One Bowl Bound

Knowshon Moreno and the Georgia Bulldogs will be headed to Orlando for the Capital One Bowl on January 1, 2009. Their opponent will be the No. 19 ranked Michigan State Spartans.

This game has some significance to it for the fans. They’ll get to witness two of the best running backs in all of college football: Knowshon Moreno and Javon Ringer. Ringer’s stats are just insane. He has almost 1600 yards and 21 rushing touchdowns… of course he did carry the ball 370 times (that’s 150 more the Knowshon).

I know the season didn’t end as well as we would have liked, but Dawgs fans still need to rally and make the trip to Orlando to support their team. This is probably the last year for both Stafford and Knowshon Moreno, so let’s send them off with a fan-filled win!

Georgia Bulldogs on Bye this week

Knowshon Moreno and the Georgia Bulldogs are on bye this weekend. They’re getting some much needed rest before the close the regular season with Georgia Tech next week. Tech looked very good last night against Miami. They must have rushed for 500 yards. There’s no doubt in a rivalry game like this, the Dawgs will have their work cut out for them.

It’s important that even though the SEC Title is out of reach, that Bulldog fans don’t start talking about next year. In fact, even Coach Richt talked about it: “I’ve been hearing a lot of talk lately, even on my call-in show, about next year, next year, next year,” Richt said. “I’m like, ‘Hold on, folks. We’ve got the most important game of the year right now. Let’s not forget.’”

Knowshon Moreno is still having a great year. I don’t think anyone can say they aren’t happy with his performance. he’s gone over 1,000 yards rushing and 15 touchdowns on the ground. He is draft eligible so next week’s game vs. Georgia Tech may be your last chance to see him play in Sanford Stadium.

Knowshon Moreno Named semifinalists for the 2008 Doak Walker Award

Georgia redshirt sophomore tailback Knowshon Moreno was named one of 10 semifinalists for the 2008 Doak Walker Award. Moreno (5-foot 11-inch, 208-pounds), has rushed for 1,113 yards this season making him only the second player in Georgia history to record more than 1,000 yards in consecutive seasons (Herschel Walker, 1980-83). Moreno, who also has 19 catches for 197 yards in 2008, has scored 15 touchdowns this season, which is the most scores by a Bulldog since 1992 (Garrison Hearst, 21).

I am so excited for Knowshon Moreno to e a semifinalist for this Award. Not only has he racked up tons of yards and touchdowns this season, but he has had several memorable plays (the leap). Those type of plays are what stand out in the voter’s minds when they’re making their decisions.

The 162 members of the Doak Walker Award selection committee will cast their votes to determine the 2008 finalists on Nov. 24. After the three finalists are named, a second vote by the selection committee will determine the recipient. The 2008 Doak Walker Award recipient is announced live on The Home Depot ESPNU College Football Awards on Dec. 11.

Georgia Survives Kentucky Wildcats

This game shouldn’t have been so close. Knowshon Moreno and the Georgia Bulldogs held off the Kentucky Wildcats 42-38. What an exciting game though. Even though it was close, we all love watching high scoring games.

Knowshon Moreno led the way with 3 rushing touchdowns from 22 carries (123 yards rushing, 40 yards receiving). I was pretty darn close to my stat prediction. I pegged Knowshon at 156 yards, and he had 163.

On a sad note though, the Florida Gators clinched the SEC East with their win over Vandy.

Below is a video of Knowshon’s first touchdown of the day. It put Georgia up 14-0.

Where Does Knowshon Go From Here?

With the Bulldogs now having two SEC losses, their National Championship hopes are gone. So where does the team, and specifically Knowshon Moreno, go from here? Will they be motivated to finish the season strong? Will Coach Richt still run Knowshon like has has the past 4-6 weeks? Will Knowshon play with heart?

In their two losses, Knowshon only has 99 rushing yards and 1 touchdown. It’s not that Alabama and Florida were keying in on Knowshon, because all teams do that. It’s that Coach Richt abandoned the run too early, especially in the Florida game. The game was still close into the 3rd quarter.

I think these final few weeks will be a big test for Knowshon Moreno and the Georgia Bulldogs. They need to respond with anger and emotion this week against Kentucky. I want to see that the players still have heart and won’t give up.

Knowshon Moreno vs. the Florida Gators

We are just 1 day away from the annual Florida vs. Georgia game. I’m excited and I know the Dawgs are looking to build a win streak over Florida, something they haven’t been able to do for years. Georgia has a very talented team, led by my favorite player Knowshon Moreno.

I already told you earlier this week that the Gators will do everything in their power to key in on and stop Knowshon. He absolutely tore them a new one last year, and the Gators won’t forget it.

The key for the Dawgs will be to get Knowshon going early, to deplete the high emotions the Gators will have. If they can get up early, there is no way the Gators can come back and win. Georgia can go toe to toe with any offense in the country.

The Dawgs just need to get Knowshon Moreno the rock. If they don’t want to run him 25 times, then they’ll need to get him involved in the passing game. The Bulldogs may be 6 point underdogs, but I think they’ll take this one home in a close game, something like 31-30. Knowshon will have 22 carries for 160 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Knowshon Moreno Just Average in UGA Win

The Georgia Bulldogs were able to hold off the South Carolina Gamecocks on Saturday in a 14-7 victory. The average Bulldog showing caused them to drop in the AP rankings to #3. Remember, they started the season #1. South Carolina has a good defense, but there’s no excuse for the Bulldogs to not put up at least 30 points on them.

Knowshon Moreno had an OK day at best. He rushed the ball 20 times for 79 yards and 1 touchdown. He also added 2 receptions for 13 yards. Richt tried to get the running game going… they ran the ball 35 times as a team, but it just wasn’t working. Knowshon was able to slip in on a 4 yard run for his touchdown in the 3rd quarter.

Knowshon Moreno, who was the SEC Player of the Week last week, played like an Average Joe this week. Things won’t get any easier as the Dawgs have to travel across the country to play ASU for game 4.

Sturdivant Out For the Season!

Posted by Knowshon Zone | Posted in Georgia Bulldogs | Posted on 12-08-2008

The University of Georgia Bulldogs football team took a big hit today when it was announced that starting left tackle Trinton Sturdivant would be out for the season. He injured his left knee yesterday in Georgia’s first scrimmage and will require season-ending reconstructive surgery. Ouch!

Georgia seems to be plagued with injuries and arrests ever since becoming #1. Sturdivant was a great run blocker and really knew how to push the pile. A lot of Knowshon Moreno’s big runs can be attributed to the gaping holes Trinton opened up. He’ll likely be replaced by fellow sophomore Josh Davis.

At least there is still some time for him to work with the first team. It’s so important for the offensive line to gel together. I hope the o-line doesn’t miss a beat and can still block for Knowshon.
